About the role
You will report to the National Head of Medical Education and Innovation and can be based on any of the campuses of the School of Medicine. You will work closely with the Head of Medical Education and Innovation, Domain Heads, Basic and Clinical Sciences domain academic staff, as well as Curriculum, Assessment, Foundation and Clinical Years teams. You will also be responsible for working in conjunction with the National Lab Manager in managing the labs on campuses and ensuring compliance in maintenance of laboratory standards or regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing national academic leadership of the Basic and Clinical Sciences Domain. This includes the development, coordination and implementation of curriculum.
- Advising on matters related to the delivery of curriculum.
- Leading the team nationally including all academic staff.
- Support academics in managing and training the relevant skills of sessional educators and tutors.
- Working with the Medical Education Unit on relevant administrative staff, clinical leads and/or clinicians to integrate learning objectives.
- Ensuring the BCS Domain curriculum resources remain current with practice and knowledge and developing innovative approaches to BCS teaching that build on pedagogical advances.
- Working with the Assessment, Curriculum and medical education academics to ensure appropriate learning objectives are suitably assessed and integrated with other domains and disciplines.
- Working with the Assessment team and BCS Domain academics in the development and marking of assessments including standard setting.
Qualifications, skills & experience
Associate Professor Level D
You will have the same skill base as a Level C Academic Employee. In addition, there is a requirement for academic excellence which may be evidenced by an outstanding contribution to teaching and/or research and/or the profession. You will be expected to make a significant contribution to all activities of the organisational unit or interdisciplinary area and play a significant role within their profession or discipline. You may be appointed in recognition of distinction in their disciplinary area
- Possession of a medical degree registrable with AHPRA and one of a Fellowship qualification in Medicine, Health or Medical Education OR a PhD, and more than five years teaching at Masters level or higher in medical, health or professional practice or higher education sector.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum design, delivery and/or assessment in medical education, preferably in the health context and in a tertiary setting, with particular reference to the Basic and Clinical Sciences.
- Leadership role in major educational initiatives and enhancements of teaching and learning activities at the school/division and University level.
- Sustained contribution to the professional development of other staff, evidenced through ongoing leadership in peer review and mentorship.
- Highly developed time management skills with an ability to manage concurrent detailed matters from beginning to end.
- Excellent teamwork, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to interact effectively with a range of academic, clinical, administrative and/or technical staff in a complex environment.
- Well-developed organisational and management abilities.
- Proficiency with technology and learning and teaching programs.
- Significant external engagement with the community and discipline/profession that may include attained recognition as an authority in discipline.
Professor Level E
You will be expected to exercise a special responsibility in providing leadership in fostering excellence in research, teaching, professional activities and policy development in the Academic discipline within the department or other comparable organisational unit, within the institution and within the community, both scholarly and general. You will have the same skill base as a Level D Academic Employee but will be recognised as a leading authority in the relevant discipline area.
- Possession of a medical degree registrable with AHPRA and one of a Fellowship qualification in Medicine, Health or Medical Education OR a PhD, and more than five years teaching at Masters level or higher in medical, health or professional practice or higher education sector.
